Death in Bloomington shows anyone could need a truck accident attorney

Just because you don’t drive a semi or 18-wheeler doesn’t mean you may not need a truck accident attorney in the future. Large commercial trucks are just a fact of life now. When you get behind the wheel, there’s a good chance you’ll be sharing the same road as one or more. The difference is they’ll be much bigger than your vehicle and, at highway speeds, potentially far more dangerous.

Unfortunately, you don’t have to be in a vehicle to be involved in an accident. Back on March 5, a firefighter in Bloomington, Illinois was standing outside his command vehicle when he was struck by a semi-truck. The volunteer firefighter, Chris Brown, died at the scene.

At the moment, testimony is still being heard. And while the incident is indeed tragic, it also shows how anyone can become a victim in an accident involving a large commercial truck. Brown was a firefighter next to a command vehicle and was still hit. He was even protected by Scott’s law, an Illinois mandate that says drivers must slow down (something, it should be noted, the driver claims he did) and move over when coming up on an emergency vehicle that is stopped.

There were also two other firefighters inside the vehicle, which was rear-ended. Fortunately, they survived. But the collision also caused a domino effect that included a fire truck, ambulance and state patrol squad car.

Again, while the verdict is still out on who, if anyone, is responsible, the case is certainly telling. Even though you may not need a qualified truck accident attorney now, unfortunately that doesn’t mean things can’t change in the future.

That’s why it pays to remember the name Kirkendall Dwyer LLP. They can offer you the type of experienced truck accident attorney you need if tragedy strikes. Unfortunately, you don’t even need to be in a car for that to happen.
